In this fieldwork assignment, students locate a recent topic related to health and use the frameworks of medical anthropology to “read like an anthropologist”. The paper requires students to cite at least three sources from at least two non-academic sources and least one academic source.
This assignment requires students have a good grasp on what ethnography as a framework is and how to engage in ethnographic research/thinking in a digital context. Emphasizing that this is not a traditional research paper is important – and reviewing together in class what it means to look at a source as data rather than just a source of information.
