Building a Predictive Probabilistic Model

This assignment’s objective is to build a probabilistic model to predict the winners of March
Madness, game by game. As summarized by Google AI: “March Madness is the nickname for the
National Collegiate Athletic Association’s (NCAA) Division I men’s and women’s college basketball
championship tournaments. The tournaments are single-elimination and take place in March and
April. The term “March Madness” is used to describe the excitement surrounding the tournaments,
which are known for their upsets and drama.”

Given the challenge of the bracket, the unpredictability of the upsets and ensuing ripple effects, massive data and statistics have been collected and curated in the public domain. This data can be used by students to build their probability models. Students will also be required to incorporate concepts and principles learned in class.
